So my step brother was going to be an usher from the beginning. But unfortunately, he's just broke up with his fiance, meaning that he thinks any sort of wedding will be awkward as heck. I dont have any ushers in my wedding so I was wondering who I could use to walk down the aisle with the parents/special guest?  Can they just walk down the aisle by themselves?  What is the purpose of them walking down the aisle instead of seating like other guests?  If they were to walk down the aisle is there a speical order?

This may be a stupid question, but do the ushers typically have the same outfit as the groomsmen?

Two of my very bestest friends in the whole world are guys. I wanted to include them in the wedding, but FH's side was full with his friends, and I'm not comfortable having them stand next to me. We had planned on having the groomsmen double as ushers for our ceremony, but I was thinking it might be nice to have an extra person around to distribute programs and to handle potential latecomers once the groomsmen leave for the processional. My guest list will be between 160 and 180 guests.  Is it really necessary to have ushers?  Can groomsmen double as ushers?

I always assumed the groomsmen would act as ushers, but the more I read things in magazines and such, it seems like there are a seperate set of ushers.

My fiance and I were discussing ushers today. He said that it is traditional for the bride to ask one usher and the groom to ask the other. Has anyone else heard this? I hadn't.
